RESCUE SLING WHITE

The Plastimo Rescue Sling is a rescue kit that can be used in a situation where someone has fallen overboard. The Kit is contained on a square shaped bag which is installed on the rails around the deck for ready use at all times. When a crew member falls overboard, a remaining crew member can open the kit and deploy the floatation belt into the water as near to the MOB as possible while alerting the skipper to begin a MOB maneuver. The skipper can then circle the vessel around the around the MOB, bringing the floatation belt within reach so that the MOB can don it. Once the MOB has donned the belt, the line can be hauled in until the MOB is at the side of the vessel. This kit has the retrieval line coiled on a reel to avoid tangling and fouling.

Please consider practicing your Man Overboard Drills regularly, and please always discuss how these rescue situations will work with new crew. Also, remember that once someone has fallen in the water, the best practice is that one person keeps their eyes locked on and an arm clearly pointing to the individual in the water at all times until they are safely recovered. Keep in mind that a person who has fallen overboard can weigh approximately 40 pounds more due to waterlogged clothing and entrapped water, and may be unable to climb aboard using a boarding ladder by themselves as part of the recovery process, especially if injured.
